Community Engagement

One of the greatest challenges facing our aging population is the lack of opportunities to engage with others.

Isolation and inactivity can rob our elderly of a sense of purpose and the chance to truly thrive in the communities they call home.

Housing With Hope creates opportunities for connection through our events and programs. Whether it’s a virtual bingo event or clothing drives, we’re here to enrich the lives of those we serve.

Our community engagement efforts seek to connect the socially isolated with services and programs that build the connections they need to live well.

The current pandemic has made the possibility of engaging in-person less likely, as we need to consider the health and safety of all involved. That’s why the Housing With Hope team is hard at work exploring all potential opportunities for connection in our communities.

Over the coming weeks and months, we hope to share plans for additional, safe community engagement opportunities for seniors and, when it is safe to spend time together in person more often, we look forward to doing so!

Community Engagement Doesn’t End With Socializing

Another aspect of our community engagement efforts is the need for volunteers. As we navigate the complexities of the pandemic in regard to our community engagement efforts, there are still some volunteer opportunities that also serve as a chance to engage with older adults in our local area.

Here are two key ways to help:

Housing With Hope Meal Distribution

Our meal delivery programs ensure healthy, balanced meals reach older adults regardless of their income. We welcome volunteers who are willing to deliver meals to the elderly and those who are willing to help coordinate those efforts.

Meal delivery during the pandemic is contactless at this time to ensure the health and safety of the delivery drivers and the seniors.

Housing With Hope Healthy Seniors Check-Ins

Housing With Hope is committed to ensuring the health and welfare of our seniors and so we coordinate check-in calls and visits. These are not affiliated with the city, county, or state-mandated welfare checks. Rather, our team and volunteers call and visit (depending on the pandemic restrictions, of course) our elderly community members to ensure that they’re well and that they have what they need.

Why Our Mission Matters

The typical role of the extended family in caring for their elderly loved ones is shifting as those caregiving children leave the neighborhoods where they were born or raised.

In many instances, communication with aging relatives has been relegated to occasional visits and video calls. Those who are fortunate enough to live with their loved ones are often left on their own when those caregivers head off to work or travel.

This isolation can be painful and can often cause the elderly to abandon the very activities that once filled them with joy and purpose, eroding their physical, mental and emotional health. This diminished quality of life can be devastating for our older loved ones and it’s the reason that Housing With Hope exists today.

Because everyone deserves to live at home.

Buoyed by a vision of a community where everyone has a safe, decent and affordable place to call home, we’re committed to the concept of service enriched housing that supports the Elderly’s housing and personal needs to help them remain safely at home.
